Leipzig
Claudia und ich sind mal wieder unterwegs, diesmal für ein langes Wochenende in Leipzig. Diese Stadt hat uns schon lange interessiert – ihre Sehenswürdigkeiten, ihre Geschichte. Angereist sind wir mit dem ICE und Unterkunft haben wir im Holiday Inn Garden Court genommen, wegen dessen zentraler Lage zu Bahnhof und Altstadt.
Gebucht haben wir das ganze über Ameropa und teilfinanziert über den Ameropa-Gutschein, den wir von meinen Ex-Kollegen in Mannheim anlässlich unserer Hochzeit geschenkt bekommen haben. Deshalb: DANKE AN DIE MANNHEIMER KOLLEGEN!
Den Abend abgeschlossen haben wir im italienischen Restaurant Andria in der Nikolaistrasse in der Altstadt. Sehr gutes Essen in üppigen Portionen auf dem Empore (Foto) in architektonisch gelungenem Ambiente.
Den Tag heute haben wir mit einer Stadtrundfahrt im Doppeldeckerbus begonnen. Eine Station war das Völkerschlachtdenkmal, das anlässlich der Schlacht gegen Napoleon 1813 und zum Gedenken an die einhunderttausend gefallenen Soldaten errichtet worden war. Wir nutzten die Hopp-off/Hopp-on-Möglichkeit dieser Stadtrundfahrt und blieben 1 1/2 Stunden dort. Man kann zur Spitze des Denkmals aufsteigen, auf mehr als 500 Stufen. Gottseidank gibt es seit der Renovierung 2006 zwei Aufzüge, die das ganze auf 172 Stufen reduziert, Drehwurm und Platzangst inklusive. Die Aussicht von dort oben entschädigt allerdings für diese Strapazen.
Andere Stationen in der Altstadt haben wir danach zu Fuß nochmal in Augenschein genommen. Das ist nicht sehr schwer, wenn man bedenkt, daß die Altstadt Leipzigs gerade mal 600 x 800 Meter groß ist. Trotz seiner scheinbar geringen Größe gibt es viel zu sehen. Höhepunkte waren
das City-Hochhaus mit Restaurant im 29. OG (sehr gutes Essen) und Aussichtsplattform darüber;
die Nikolaikirche, ein schmuckes Gotteshaus ohne bunte Fenster, das mit den Montagsfriedensgebeten zum Kristallisationspunkt für die Unzufriedenheit der Bevölkerung der DDR wurde und schließlich zu deren Untergang beitrug;
das Café Kandler, das mit köstlichen Bratapfel mit Vanillesauce und Zimteis dafür gesorgt hat, daß bei allem geistigen Futter der Körper nicht zu kurz kommt.
Apropos Futter: Vier Dinge sind es, die Leipzig typischerweise dazu beiträgt: Leipziger Allerlei, Leipziger Gose (ein obergäriges Bier mit Salz und Koriander), Leipziger Lerchen (ein Mürbeteiggebäck mit Marzipanfüllung) und den Bachtaler (ein großes Praliné für 1,60 Euro das Stück). Nun, die letzten drei genannten kann man getrost wieder vergessen.
